June 5, 1957 - May 19, 2020
Connie Odessa Godbold, 62, of Clermont and Flagler Beach, Florida passed away on Tuesday, May 19th 2020 from complications resulting from a recent breast cancer diagnosis. Her loving daughter and husband were by her side when she passed. Mrs. Godbold was a woman of emanating warmth. Those that had the great fortune of crossing her path were usually greeted by her quick-wit, wide smile and ability to truly listen and observe. A devoted mother and wife, she radiated a quiet strength and selflessness that acted as the helm of her family’s values. Born on June 5th, 1957 in Pikeville, Tennessee, she attended both Brainard High School in her native Chattanooga, Tennessee as well as The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Mrs. Godbold spent her early years championing volunteering through her activity in the Tri-Hi Y Club and involvement as a varsity cheerleader at Brainard High School. She was inducted into The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Kappa Sigma Fraternity as a little sister and completed her Associates Degree in the field of Nursing while working a full-time job. Mrs. Godbold led an impassioned career in dental consultation and management. For over 35 years, she created a comforting environment for patients and their families, nurturing hundreds of relationships by providing care and guidance to all whom she met. Her eye for design and comprehensive sewing skills also shaped her second profession as a seamstress for the performing arts. Her ability to blend texture and artistry allowed her to create commissioned tutus for professional ballet companies throughout the South for many years. Mrs. Godbold celebrated her Catholic faith vividly. She cherished her parish community of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Clermont, Florida, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a Sacristan and a Liturgical Coordinator. Her weekly observation of Holy Adoration and the Holy Eucharist were reserved for her acts of prayer for not only her loved ones and friends but also hopeful intentions for those that she had never even met. By making those around her feel truly recognized, it was not rare to see her enjoying good company and relishing in the fun and laughter that she had created. She loved a long day spent at the beach, sports cars, extending family recipes, good music, and never shied away from speaking her mind when she felt that the subject mattered most. Her family will forever hold closest to their hearts her dazzling flame of faith and gratitude and will celebrate her beautifully lived life, infinitely. Mrs. Godbold is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Christopher A. Godbold; daughter, Kathleen E. Godbold (William B. Dyke) of Old Greenwich, Connecticut. Mrs. Godbold is also survived by her brother, Gary D. Winnie (Sharon Winnie), her nephew, Gary D. Winnie, Jr., and niece, Malissa A. Winnie all of Birchwood, Tennessee. She was the youngest daughter of predeceased Winsted N. and Flossie Winnie. She is concurrently survived by her Sister-in-Law, Nancy Fox (Thomas L. Fox, Jr.) of Benton, Tennessee, Brother-in-law, Gustave S. Godbold, Jr., of Chattanooga, Tennessee and her nephews Thomas L. Fox, III (Tara M. Hodges Fox) of Columbia, Tennessee, Gustave S. Godbold, III of Sarasota, Florida and Anthony D. Fox (Lauren A. Fox) of Hixson, Tennessee. Mrs. Godbold is also survived by seven-great nieces and three great-nephews spanning throughout her enriched family branches. The family plans a funeral mass on Wednesday June 17th, 2 PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church followed by an outdoor reception. In lieu of flowers, the family urges a celebration of life through donations made in Connie O. Godbold’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (st.judes.org) and to Sisters of Life (sistersoflife.org).
