Geraldine Blevins Turner
June 8, 1938 - February 10, 2021
Geraldine Blevins Turner of Norfolk, Virginia, had a sweet, peaceful departure surrounded by loved ones on February 10, 2021 at the age of 82 in Palm Coast, Florida. Her larger than life spirit and feisty persona will always be fondly remembered. She was the middle child of the late Rosa Ellen Campbell Knowles (b: 05/16/1920 in Granville, NC, d: 11/22/2013 in West VA) & Leonard Kenneth Blevins (b: 07/10/1906 in Alexander, NC, d: 10/26/1972 in Alexandria, VA). She was affectionately known as Geri. She was a mother, a housewife, and realtor. Later, she went back to school and graduated from Tidewater Community College with a degree in Marketing. She was a true Patriot who loved to wear her Uncle Sam costume while passionately advocating for Veterans’ rights in honor of her late husbands, Mayor Vicente ‘Ben’ Gumataotao & James ‘Jim’ Turner, both US Navy retirees. After the passing of her second husband, she never wanted anything that needed to be ‘walked, watered or fed.’ This left her plenty of time dedicated to reading, traveling the world, shopping, playing bridge and avidly following politics. She was a fanatic about having good teeth and a clean house and it was often said that there is Clean, Hospital Clean and the much more stringent standard: Grandma Clean! Geraldine was a longtime member of Oakdale Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed helping others and loved to volunteer. Some of her volunteer activities included helping Military Veterans, teaching in the adult literacy program, and working at one of the shelters at the Appalachian Trail. She also was a Citizen Police for the Norfolk Police Dept. She was a woman of strength, sharp wit and a great appreciation for higher education as evidenced in the success of her 4 children: Atty. Gary Wayne Frank Gumataotao (wife Atsuko) of Guam, Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Hussey RN, CNOR (husband Donnie Hussey) of Virginia, Vicente ‘Glen’ Gumataotao (wife Gina) of Virginia, and Lisa Gumataotao-Perkins BA Math, BA Comp Networking (husband Joe Perkins) of Florida. She will be greatly missed and remembered by her grandchildren: Amy, Angelica, Stacy, Ashley, Matthew, Joshua & Jeremiah. And she was absolutely crazy about her great grandbabies: Adelynn, Isaiah, Yohann, Carson & Lucas. Geraldine also leaves behind her siblings: Leonard ‘Warriner’ Blevins (wife Janie) of Virginia and Ethelene Walters (husband Wayne) of West Virginia. Our Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother had an amazing life and lived it to the fullest. While this fiery redheaded firecracker will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her, she has stepped into Heaven and is dancing & laughing with Jesus. She will be cremated and her ashes interred at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alpha Women’s Center, 4751 East Moody Blvd., Bldg. 5, Bunnell, FL 32110, or go to www.alphawomencenter.org/donate
