Virginia S. Legge, 80, of Palm Coast passed away peacefully on January 15, 2017. Born in Chicago and raised in Campbell Hall, NY, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder. She married Robert Legge in 1958 and they lived in Tuxedo, NY. She built a productive decades-long career in public service with New York's Department of Labor in the Hudson Valley. She defied gender barriers of the times and worked her way up the ranks, from employment interviewer to counselor and senior leader of community services, She tirelessly forged partnerships and was a master at networking and human relations. She was passionate about helping put people to work and supporting jobs growth. She was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor Humane Letters from the College of Mount Saint Mary in 1997. She retired from the position of Regional Director after 45 years of service. She later moved to Palm Coast FL where she quickly made new friendships while enjoying cooking, dining, golf, croquet, bridge, reading and her treasured cats. She adored her family and delighted in sharing her outstanding culinary skills and tastes with her grandchildren. She was a gifted hostess and loved to travel. We will miss her wisdom, enthusiasm, zestful laugh and appreciation for life's simple pleasures. She cared deeply for those around her and is leaving us with beautiful and everlasting memories. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her parents Jerome and Virginia Strasser. Virginia is survived by her son Stephen and daughter-in-law Jeannette and their children Shannon and Kyle; her sister Helen and brother-in-law Myron Cummings; nieces and nephews John (Paulina) Brennan, AnnMarie (Allan) Voss, Kevin (Lynn) Brennan, Michael (Beth) Cummings, Jim (Kathy) Brennan, Julie (Ron) Cummings and their families as well as many friends. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday January 21st 1:00-5:00 pm at her home, 65 Eastlake Rd, Palm Coast Florida. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in memory of Ginny to Buffalo Grove Rotary Foundation for Ak' Tenamit (aktenamit.org), dedicated to improving quality of life and educational opportunities for the indigenous Mayan population of rural Guatemala.
