Adrienne Nelson Dorn's Obituary
Adrienne Nelson Dorn
Adrienne Nelson Dorn 52, formerly of Charleston, SC passed away July 15, 2014, at her home in Port Orange, Florida.
She had a 28-year career with the Post and Courier. At the time she retired she had become a member of the design team. She loved her work and spoke often about it and the people she worked with and missed.
It must be said that through much of her life, Adrienne struggled with some personal and health issues which at times overshadowed her many good qualities. Sadly, during the last few months of her life she was deeply troubled by the uncertainty of a society she saw as violent and out of control. However, those who knew and loved her will remember best her sweet and loving nature, her delightful sense of humor, her amazing energy, and her ability to be incredibly charming and gracious. She was a beautiful woman who loved all the "girlie stuff" and looked much younger than her years. Although she had no children of her own, she loved children and they readily responded to her warm-hearted interest. Like her other sisters, she loved spending time at the beach with a good book and someone to chat with, and she loved to travel. She was a very unselfish and generous person who was always willing to help out.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert G. and Rita L. Nelson, and her brother George Michael Nelson.
She is survived by her sisters Kathleen (Dale) Stoin of Columbus, OH, Sheila (Bill) Carroll of Cross, SC, Michelle Palastrant of Goose Creek, SC. Her brother Albert G. (Kristin) Nelson, Jr. of Greensboro, NC in addition she had eleven nieces and nephews. The family would also like to recognize Sherrie Munn, her best friend from childhood and former mother-in-law, Mamie Haynes, whom she dearly loved. She also loved her loyal companion Shelly, her golden Lab.
“Our little sister will be greatly missed”. The family will hold a private memorial for Adrienne.
