Alan Scott Ross' Obituary
Alan Scott Ross went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 69, on June 18, 2023 after a long fight with cancer. He passed away in his St. Augustine home with loved ones by his side.
Scott is survived by his wife, Eleanor Barady Ross (Ellie),his stepdaughter Mindy DeAngelis and her husband Dominic; their daughters, Mia, Haiden, and Sophia DeAngelis, his mother Alice Ross, his brother John Ross, and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Ross and his sister Belinda Gillard.
Scott was born in Fitzgerald, GA on January 15, 1954. He moved to Jacksonville, FL with his family when he was 5 years old. He attended local schools there and graduated from Englewood High School in 1972. After high school, Scott pursued a career in the automotive industry. He was a Master Technician for several years until he became the Automotive Service Manager for Jack Wilson Chevrolet. It was during his career at Jack Wilson where he met the love of his life, Ellie, whom he married on December 16, 2006. After ten years of hard work at the dealership, Scott accepted a position with Allstate Dealer Services as a Senior Claims Manager, where he worked for the remainder of his life.
Although Scott was a hard worker, he enjoyed his downtime tremendously. He loved spending days fishing on the boat, playing pool, throwing darts, and playing cards. He loved watching racing and occasionally driving the race cars. He loved college football, especially his Georgia Bulldogs! He loved working in the yard and tending to the many fruit trees and vegetables growing throughout. He loved large and small gatherings with friends and family. He loved the people that make up Good News Church and he loved attending service there. Most importantly, Scott loved Jesus. It’s what gave him the ability to love his wife, family, and friends abundantly.
Scott had a 1000 watt smile that never made anyone feel like a stranger. He welcomed everyone into his home with open arms. He was an integral, warm, generous, forgiving, kindhearted, and strong man of faith.
He will be missed by so many who were fortunate enough to have known him. “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure “(Hebrews 6:19), that we will see Scott’s smiling face once again in Heaven.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 5:00 PM, Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Good News Church (Wildwood Campus), St. Augustine, Florida with a reception to follow in the gym. Smiley Sturgis will be officiating the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Scott’s memory by donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Good News Church’s Mercy Fund.
Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
