Albert S. C. Millar Jr.'s Obituary
Albert S.C. Millar, Jr., 89, passed away April 5, 2021 under the compassionate care of Grays Tranquility Senior Care and Kindred Hospice. He was born on December 18, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. He served two years in the Army during the Korean War. He graduated from University of Florida and was a retired attorney. He practiced law for over 50 years in Jacksonville, FL, handling many different types of cases. One he was most proud was when he represented the City of Mayport and its’ community against the Goliath Cruise Ship acquisition. He enjoyed many years living as the King House Curator in Mayport, FL and hosted the best Halloween Parties a haunted house can provide.
Many knew him as Big Guy or Big Al or Loop. He enjoyed many great times and laughs with longtime friends – aka “Fun Dogs”. He enjoyed playing Boo-Ray, Chess, Bridge and was a long time visitor of the Dog Tracks – there goes Rusty! He was very superstitious at the track, you always had to place your bet at a particular window, and had to watch the race outside but couldn’t touch the door to get there (while someone else opened the door he would race through). He enjoyed hustling many in a betting game of billiards – usually winning. He was a fantastic dancer and lit up any room with his moves.
He was openly generous and had a one of a kind crazy personality that had people automatically drawn to him. He as always doing crazy projects and loved getting everyone involved – Beach Buggy covered with sea shells and a shark mouth mounted at front, coquina BBQ pits, rock walls, flaming water fountains and many more. There are many people that have a “Big Al” story to tell that will have everyone in the room laughing.
He is survived by his children, Albert (Barbara) Millar; Richard (widowed) Millar; Troy (Karen) Millar; Vicki (Danny) Duncan; Jimmy (Amy) Millar, and pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law, Cindy Millar and grand-daughter, Ashley Crenshaw. He had 12 grand-children and 3 great-grandchildren and one more to be born later this year.
The family is hosting a Celebration of Big Al’s Life on Saturday, May 15TH at noon at the Bat Cave, 5823 Trout River Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32219. Casual attire, with food, beverages and many Big Al stories to share.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to the Kindred Hospice Foundation, 4861 Palm Coast Parkway NW, Suite 3, Palm Coast, FL 32137. In memo section – note in honor of Al Millar.
He was a Legend that knew how to Live – and will be truly missed.
