Alfred Durand's Obituary
Alfred Durand, 82, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at Grand Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on August 22, 1943, in Haiti to his beloved mother, Alice Debrose, Alfred carried the rhythm of his roots with him throughout his life. Music was not just something he enjoyed—it was who he was. As a DJ, Alfred had an incredible ear and a deep knowledge of all types of music. From the rich sounds of his Haitian heritage to soul, gospel, and beyond, he knew how to set the tone, read a crowd, and keep the music flowing. He often offered his DJ services for free, not for recognition, but simply to bring joy—to fill rooms with laughter, get people dancing, and create moments that would live on long after the music stopped.
Alfred lived his life like a perfectly blended mix—full of rhythm, heart, and purpose. His love for his Haitian culture remained strong, and he made sure it was always present in the music he played and the life he lived.
He had a gift for making people smile. Alfred loved telling jokes and had a way of lighting up any room he entered. Seeing others happy brought him true joy, and he carried a lighthearted spirit that drew people to him. His laughter was contagious, and his presence made life feel a little brighter.
Outside of music, Alfred had a remarkable talent for cars. He loved fixing them and could identify almost any antique vehicle by its year, make, and model with ease—a skill that never failed to impress.
He was also a natural businessman, known for his sharp mind and ability to turn even the smallest opportunity into something meaningful—often said to be able to “turn five cents into hundreds.” But more than anything he built, it was the love he gave and the lives he touched that defined his success.
Alfred also found joy in cooking, especially for church events, where he served others with the same generous heart he carried in all he did. Whether behind a DJ booth, under the hood of a car, or in a kitchen preparing a meal, Alfred gave his whole heart.
At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Marie Claude Durand, whom he often called “the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.” Even in his final days at the nursing home, their love remained strong and unwavering. With tenderness and affection, he would say, “Here comes my mother,” not out of confusion, but out of deep appreciation—because she cared for him with the same gentle, selfless love a mother would give. Their bond was one of enduring love, devotion, and faithfulness that never faded.
He is also survived by his sons, Fredlin Durand and Serge Clement; his cherished grandchildren, Madison and Noah; and his dear cousin, Jamba Debrose, and his wife, Solange, who was not only family but his closest friend.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Marie and Gerald Jeannot for the love and care they provided Alfred in New York until his wife was able to settle in Florida. A special and sincere thank you to Gerald, whose kindness went above and beyond—visiting Alfred regularly, shaving him, bathing him, and advocating for his care to ensure he was treated with dignity and compassion. His devotion will never be forgotten.
A Funeral Mass will be held on April 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
Alfred’s life was a beautiful song—full of rhythm, laughter, love, and soul. Though the music may have quieted, the joy he gave, the love he shared, and the memories he created will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and a life well lived—one that will never fade.
The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed 10 minutes before the service at https://www.facebook.com/heritagefuneralandcremation
