I grew up with the Manthey's, as their family was integral to my church life growing up. Brian and I became lifelong friends because of this and I am so grateful for all that Alice meant to both her family and the extended church family. She was an amazingly kind woman, who shared her joyful spirit with everyone (even crazy teenagers). The memory that stands out for me was when she offered to chaperone Brian, Gary and myself at her parent's house in Pompano Beach Florida for Spring Break. What was she thinking? Back then I didn't appreciate it, since this was beyond the call of duty. When I reflect on it as an adult with grown children, we were typical High School guys that were on the prowl. She drove us everywhere and always did it like it was no big deal. Putting myself in her shoes, this was a big deal since she freely gave up any relaxation time she might have had to make sure we had fun. Of course, she was very understanding of our shenanigans. While this is just one small example, that selflessness while keeping a great attitude is a rare quality that shows what an amazing person she was. I am thankful for her being a part of my childhood.
