Alvin E. Montgomery's Obituary
Alvin E. Montgomery, age 72, passed away at his home in Ormond Beach, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. He was born August 11, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a graduate of Ribault High School in 1963 and received his BS from the University of Florida, School of Journalism. He graduated Army ROTC and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
He married Kathleen Roche on December 18, 1965 in Palatka. He served two years in Germany and then made their home in West Palm Beach where he went to work for Florida Power and Light Company. Al continued to work for FPL, holding managerial customer service positions in Ormond Beach, Miramar, St. Augustine, Flagler, Plantation and Daytona Beach. After retiring in 1996, he opened Just Rite Cleaning, a commercial janitorial service.
Al loved the Lord and served as an elder in several area churches. He was most recently a charter member of Bible Refuge Fellowship. Al loved to camp, cheer for the Gators, and spend time with his family.
He is survived by Kathy, his beloved wife of 53 years and devoted care giver; a daughter Lisa and her husband Scott Reedy of Korona; a son Christopher D. Montgomery of St. Augustine; 5 grandchildren: Jacob, Benjamin “Seth”, Caleb, Hannah and Rebekah Reedy; 2 sisters: Phyllis (Julian “Ray”) Smith of Jacksonville, Susan (Thomas) Lawrence of Deland; and many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin E. and Doris Montgomery, and sister Pamela Green.
A “Celebration of Life” ceremony will be held Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 2pm at Calvary Christian Center, 1687 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Attendees will be able to pay their respects to the family starting at 1pm.
Internment, with Military Honors, will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, April 13th at 12:30pm. The cemetery is located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
