Benjamin B Martins' Obituary
Benjamin B. Martins, known affectionately as Benji, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, in Palm Coast, Florida, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Ferreiros, Freguesia Gondoriz, Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal on November 27, 1949, to Manuel V. Martins and Sara Barreiro Martins, Benji immigrated to Mount Vernon, New York, from Portugal in 1973 and worked as a union carpenter in New York City until his retirement.
Forty-Six years ago, Benji married his beloved wife, Maria Idalia, in a beautiful ceremony in Mount Vernon, New York. Together, they raised two daughters, Sarah Ottermann and Diana Martins, in Putnam Lake, NY. Benji and Maria Idalia moved to Palm Coast in 2011, where Benji was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his morning coffee with his wife and friends at the local café.
Benji was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Venancio B. Martins and Jose Francisco B. Martins. His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Maria Idalia; his children, Sarah (Marcus) and Diana; his two grandchildren, Armani and Avianna Cruz; his brothers, Manuel Martins, Fernando Veloso (Sylvaine); his sister, Maria Helena (Manuel) Alves; and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Benji's life will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service in Bunnell, Florida. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the Martins family kindly requests donations be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. https://lustgarten.org/
Benji will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
