Carl Baker's Obituary
Carl Baker was born in Harlem, New York on January 19,1949 to the late Sylvester Baker and Lillian Gray. Carl and his fraternal twin brother Allen were the oldest of six born to this union. In his infinite wisdom, God called him to his eternal rest on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Carl was educated in The New York City Public School System. In 1969 Carl enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably in Korea. Unbeknownst to Carl, he was exposed to the poisonous chemical agent later named Agent Orange. Over the ensuing years, various cognitive and physical maladies resulted.
Carl loved animals, especially dogs. He became very adept at training them. He also loved fishing. He could identify any type of fish and knew their habitats and the best way to catch them.
Carl was a giving and generous person and would do anything for others. Carl unofficially became the family caretaker and babysitter- known affectionately as “Uncle Carl” to a host of nephews, nieces and later great-nephews and great nieces. Eventually, Carl left Brooklyn with his brother Curtis and resided in Borger, TX.
After brother Curtis and sister Lorena moved away, Carl’s life became more difficult. Various Veterans Organizations attempted to fill this void with limited success. In February of 2019, brothers Curtis and Calvin recognized this dilemma and relocated him to Palm Coast, FL.
Carl’s final 5 years in Florida were marked by adventure and fulfillment. Carl lived independently, was able to travel, enjoy fine dining, movies and family barbecues. The Baker Boys were finally all together again, and he was happy.
Carl is survived by 6 siblings, including his brothers Stanley (Carolyn) Baker, Fred Baker, Rev. Allen Baker, Curtis (Karla) Baker, Calvin (Dorothy) Baker, and his sister Lorena Leamon. Carl was preceded in death by his father Sylvester, mother Lillian, brother Dennis Baker, brother Bobby Kelly, sister Ann Meadows, and sister - in law Mona Baker. He will be missed by his extended family including a host of nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless friends who all loved him dearly.
Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service of Bunnell, FL is assisting with arrangements.
