I'll never forget the day I met Carlos Ann, June 15, 1970. I walked into IBM Manassas, an anxious 22 year old, recently graduated from college, and reporting to my first self-supporting job. I had moved to an area where I had no family and knew no one. And there she was, with her bubbly personality and welcoming presence. She immediately put me at ease and told me to call my mother and tell her that I was not alone any longer, for Carlos, Donald, Kevin and you, Keith, welcomed me into your hearts. Several years after you all moved to the New York City suburbs, so did I. It was there that I saw Carlos' talent and love for theatrical production blossom and I saw the positive impact she had on the youth in Peekskill. She and I traveled together, both in groups and sometimes just the two of us. My first trip to Europe was with Carlos, where we, though warned, went with much too much luggage. After several weeks, we could easily spot other American tourists on the Eurorail because they had as much luggage as we did. We would sit back as seasoned European travelers and just giggle.
We shared in the joys in each other's lives and supported each other through times of challenges and sorrows. She professed her faith in the way she lived her life.
Keith, Carey, Paige, Brendan, and Emma, I am going to miss your mother and grandmother and my friend so very much, but no more than you. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
With love . . . Joyce+
