Carlton Russell Blow's Obituary
Carlton Russell Blow, 94, passed away at his home on February 12, 2024 in Palm Coast, FL under the care of Gentiva Hospice. He was surrounded by his daughters Karen King, Laurie Fezette and Tammy Becker, as well as long time neighbor and friend, Jackie Navas. Carlton was born on April 1, 1929 in Ellenburg, NY to Merritt and Mary Ann [nee Cook] Blow.
Carl met his first wife, Shirley Prevo and was married for 25 years. They raised ten children: Roger (Eileen) Blow, Sister Deborah Blow, Dianne (Daniel) Rabideau, Terry (Amber Herron) Blow, Karen King, Kathy (Bernard) Whalen, Laurie (James) Fezette, Ricky (Missy) Blow, Tim (Laura) Blow, and Tammy Becker. The Lord blessed Carl and Shirley with 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Carl loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them.
After meeting the second love of his life, Joan S. Herring, Carl and Joan were married on May 27, 1983. When they combined families, Donald (Carol) Herring and their children also became a part of the family. Carl will be greatly missed by many generations of family and friends. Heaven has indeed gained another angel...
Carl was predeceased by both of his wives, Shirley [nee Prevo] and Joan [nee Herring]; his son-in-law Chris King; and a great-granddaughter, Chloe King. The last of his siblings, Carl outlived all 8 of his brothers and sisters.
Carl grew up working on his father's farm for many years. He also worked on a potato farm and building the St. Lawerence Seaway. Carl later worked at the Cadillac - Oldsmobile Dealership in Plattsburgh, NY as a mechanic; at Agway in Ellenburg Depot and at Wassaic State School as a mechanic for many years. Carl was a mechanic by trade but actually loved working on anyone's vehicles or giving them advice on the phone.
Carl really enjoyed gardening. He grew all sorts of vegetables, but was known best for his prized tomatoes. He also enjoyed watching baseball in his spare time, and could cheer for any team except the NY Yankees. Later in life, he and Joan enjoyed gambling and especially loved to travel- taking cruises to numerous destinations. A social couple, they regularly attended friends’ gatherings when they weren’t hosting themselves. Local friends jokingly called him either ‘The Mayor of Flamingo Drive’ or ‘Mr. Clean’ because you could eat off the floor of his spotless garage! Throughout his life, Carl was a very religious man- and he wore a rosary from the day his wife died in November 2021 until his hands were too swollen to wear it.
A memorial service to celebrate Carl’s incredible life will be held on Wednesday, February 21st at 11am at the Palm Coast Bible Church located on 94 Whiteview Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164. Immediately following the service, the family will host an onsite luncheon. A livestream option will be available at: https://www.facebook.com/heritagefuneralandcremation
