Carolyn Fain Holifield's Obituary
Carolyn Fain Holifield, “Sweet Caroline”, age 72, passed peacefully Tuesday, July 18, under the care of Hospice. Carolyn was born October 29, 1950 in Asheville, North Carolina to Fain Edwards Brooks and Mary Carolyn Brooks.
Carolyn is survived by her three children: DeWayne Heatherly, Tammi Heatherly, Cayla Lockhart, “Buddy Dog”, Grandchildren: Amber Brooks, Maeggan Brooks and Tara Brooks. Her favorite “Aunt Tiny” and long-time friend, Lori Combs.
Carolyn spent the first half of her life in the mountains of North Carolina. At the age of 39, she made the bold decision to return to school to receive her Surgical Technician degree; showing others that it is never too late to begin again. This decision led her to Florida, where she began her 25-year career at Flagler Hospital in St Augustine. In 2009, She was promoted to the hazmat team. Carolyn took great pride in her career. She was well-liked and even more, she was well-loved. She was known for her hard work ethic, her intelligence, humor and charm.
By day, Carolyn was in the medical field - By night, she was: “Sweet Caroline”, an avid member of the Hammock Community. She served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary Eagles club for many years. She was informally known as the “Hammock nurse” and spent many 1am mornings stitching up, sometimes even super gluing the locals back together. She loved her hammock community. She was known for her generosity, for allowing others to be themselves; no matter how “good” and no matter how “bad.” She was known for her (Feisty) and (Fun) spirit, her “spunk” and again; her humor and her charm.
She loved the Daytona car races, any and all oldie music; (Sweeeeet Caroline) - Dun, dun, dun. had her heart but (Devil with the blue dress) had her soul. Fee, fee, fi, fi, fo-fo, fum.
She loved playing Yahtzee and LCR, highly competitive at both. She loved the movie Forest Gump - However, she was not a fan of Jenny. At all. She was a huge fan of football season - not for the game or any team. She was known for being in the local football pools and more often than not, winning them all.
“Sweet Caroline”, in her prime, a spirit impossible to put in words. She did it (her way) until the very end. She was deeply loved by those who knew her and she will be deeply missed.
Carolyn’s body has been donated to Science Care in honor of her career in the medical field.
Celebration of Life & Birthday Bash will be held Saturday, October 28 at Bings Landing.
