Charles Steven Womack's Obituary
Charles Steven Womack, 69, passed away on November 30, 2021 in Palm Coast, Florida. Steve was a gifted storyteller and loved to regale a captive audience with stories he had both heard and experienced. He was quick-witted, a collector of jokes, and left an impression on everyone he met, everywhere he went. Without him in it, the world is a little less funny.
Steve and his wife Jeanine loved to travel. Throughout their 17+ years together they enjoyed visiting the Caribbean and Europe including France and Monte Carlo. One memorable family trip was to the Dominican Republic with all their children and grandchildren in 2017. It was the essence of his nature to always have a good time and it brought him joy to make others laugh.
Steve grew up in Decatur, Georgia and was a graduate of Druid Hills High School (1970). An old-school businessman, his professional career spanned four decades and multiple industries. Whether fishing or boating, Steve loved water which led him to retire in Palm Coast, Florida, where he often joked “there are no fish in that ocean”. As a lover of a great variety of music, he (loudly) listened to everything from The Rolling Stones to Aaron Neville, from James Brown to Andrea Bocelli. Christmas mornings for his children began with Deck the Halls by Manheim Steamroller… at full volume.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Charles N. Womack and Elinor Latham Womack, as well as his nephews, Brian Womack and Chuck Herndon.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jeanine Russom Womack; his children Stephanie (Kelly) Mathis, Charles ‘Gary’ Womack, James R. Womack and Christina (Patrick) Day; stepson Jeremie (Michelle) Russom; grandchildren Logan Day, Stella Mathis, Lucas Day, Luna Womack and Eleanor ‘Nora’ Womack; step grandchildren Ashli Russom, Sabrah Russom and Destiny Russom; as well as one step great-granddaughter, Maddox. He is further survived by his siblings, Judy Finke, Carol Cotton and Jim Womack and their families.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held March 5, 2022 from 2-4pm at The Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta. Friends and family are invited to join his wife and children for an afternoon of remembrance, reunion, and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Steve’s memory to your local Humane Society.
Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
