Colin C. Dunbar's Obituary
Colin Clarence Dunbar, 83, passed away peacefully in Palm Coast, FL on November 2, 2025. He was a cherished father, husband, friend and musician, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Born on February 8, 1942, in Spillcorn, North Carolina, Colin was the son of Clarence Edward and Vicie Cutshall Dunbar. He graduated from Charles Town High School in 1959 and took classes at West Virginia University and Shephard College in West Virgina. He married Katherine Bierly Dunbar in 1962 and had two sons, Timothy Scott (Tim) and Michael Edward (Mike) Dunbar.
Colin’s work life was very diverse. He was a mathematics teacher at Mosby High School in Front Royal, Virginia, before becoming a computer programmer for the federal government including the Internal Revenue Service, Occupational Safety and Health Administration and National Institutes of Health in the Washington D.C area. After leaving the federal government, he owned and operated a Sears franchise store for 18 years in Ranson, West Virginia, along with three Subway sub shops. After closing those businesses, he worked various construction and maintenance jobs, one of which took him around the country building McDonald’s restaurants.
Colin was a member of the Charles Town Moose Lodge #948, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Charles Town Lions Club, and the Izaak Walton League of America. He also volunteered at the American Red Cross.
Colin’s passion was music. As a self-taught banjo player and gifted singer, he loved bluegrass music. He played in several bands including Mountain City Union, Sleepy Creek, The Night Crawlers, and Old Guys Rule. He also played with various church worship teams. He always traveled with his banjo and guitars. He played at many festivals, jubilees, jam sessions, weddings, and nursing homes.
In 2006, Colin married Jaci Jono Sirangelo. They moved to Palm Coast, Florida in 2012. He was a member of Coastal Bible Fellowship church.
Colin is survived in death by his wife Jaci and her daughter Raphaela Guimaraes, and his two sons, Tim (Marie) and Mike. He is proceeded in death by his parents Edward and Vicie, his sister Anna Christine Dunbar Bullock and infant twin brothers. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, embraced by the Lord’s love, and reunited with those who went before him.
