Curtis Lee Holmes' Obituary
Curtis Lee Holmes, 93, of Palm Coast, FL passed away surrounded by loving family on August 30, 2022. He was born in Lowell, FL on September 13, 1928 to Percy and Lugenia (nee Akins-Leeks) Holmes.
Curtis received his formal education through Industrial High School in West Palm Beach Fl. There he excelled as a star student in academics, and was notable by his peers as "best dressed". He also represented the class of 1947 well, attending all class reunions faithfully.
Curtis actively served our country in the United States Army. Later, in 1957, he received his certification of broadcasting arts from the Broadcasting Coaching Associates. His certification provided amazing opportunities which led him to Connecticut where he began a career in the radio industry as a Disc-Jockey. It was there that he met and married his beloved wife, Julia V Hayes. God blessed their union of 59 wonderful blissful years. The couple later relocated to Virginia, purchased a lovely home, where they
maintained livestock, cultivated a beautiful garden, and harvested the best fresh fruits and vegetables in Virginia. From the very beginning they both were destined to do great things. In 1988, he retired from Lonestar.
Life then led them to Palm Coast, Florida where they continued to enjoy each other’s company and take pride in their home; meticulously gardening and maintaining a beautifully manicured lawn. They also engaged in social activities, cruises, hosted parties, and traveling. They loved Palm Coast and were very active and loved in their community.
Proudly, Curtis L Holmes Illustrious Potentate, was a member of Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine Temple No. 40 New Haven Connecticut. While Julia Virginia was a member of the Eastern Stars.
On November 20, 2020, Julia went on to be with the Lord. Soon after, God sent their oldest granddaughter, Debbie Holmes, to not only be his full-time caregiver, but also his loving friend and protector. They enjoyed car rides, outside activities, running errands, listening to music, and sitting at the table sharing stories. His
granddaughter took exceptional care of her granddaddy.
Also preceding Curtis in death were his parents, Percy and Lugenia, his beloved wife Julia, as well as his siblings, Lily Mae Lightsey, Waldo Holmes, Lorenzo Leeks, and Sam Holmes.
Curtis is survived by his son Curtis Leon (Brenda Allen) Holmes and stepdaughter Carmenta Hayes; his siblings: Lillian Daniels, Mary (Alonzo) Bell; and grandchildren: Debbie Holmes, Katrina (Demico) Cole, and Whitney Holmes; great and great-great grandchildren: Lathan Pulce, Brandon Holmes, Ty’La Griffin,
Laila Pulce, Blake Cole, Anniston Cole, and Pharoah Lyons; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He will be loved forever and remembered as a great and noble man. He will be sorely missed by countless family and friends!
