Diane E. Layng

Diane E. Layng, 74, passed away unexpectedly at Florida Hospital Flagler on January 14,2017. Diane was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Wayne State University in Elementary Education and her Master's degree from Eastern University in Literacy. Diane taught for 36 years before retiring and moving to Palm Coast, Florida with her beloved husband. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and serving the Lord. She was involved with many committees in Palm Coast including the CDD for Grand Haven. There wasn't a club that Diane didn't join or think about trying. Among these were her book club, croquet club, and pokino club. Diane served many through her volunteering opportunities at Parkview Baptist Church. She was an active member of the bereavement committee, a GLOW member serving as a mentor mom, and loved to welcome new members to the church through the welcome tent every other Sunday. Her faith and God came first, however, her love for her family was a close second. Diane loved her grandchildren. Nothing made her more happy than to see them, share stories, and love on them. Diane defined love. Her hobbies reflected this. She loved to read, quilt, golf, and spend time in her pool. Diane and Dick felt very blessed to be living by the ocean. She never took it for granted and found peace there through their many drives along the shoreline. Diane embraced her Scottish heritage, and kept tradition alive through her countless deliveries of Scottish Shortbread. Anyone who knew Diane, received a batch of her homemade shortbread at some point. Tradition was of importance to Diane. Diane's love for her husband was the greatest of all loves. It is the kind of love that's rare. A kind of love that will live forever. Diane was preceded in death by her parents Alexander and Annie Rennie, and her brother Douglas Rennie. Diane is survived by her husband Richard "Dick" Layng of 53 years and daughters Pamela Molyneaux (of Jacksonville Beach, Florida) and Stephanie Chatfield (of Grand Rapids,Michigan). She is also survived by her grandchildren Derek and Bennett Molyneaux, and Ella, Cohen, and Grady Chatfield. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 19, at Parkview Baptist Church:5435 Belle Terrie Pkwy, Palm Coast FL. 32137. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Parkview Baptist Church. Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
