Donald E Lauer's Obituary
Donald E. Lauer, 91, of Flagler Beach, Florida died peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, Florida. He was born on September 21, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Bertha (nee Andrzejewski) Lauer.
Don graduated from Crane Technical High School in 1950 and completed Engineering courses at Illinois Institute of Technology and Northwestern University in Chicago from 1952-1958. He met his future wife, Sylvia Michalski, in 1950 on a blind date ice skating in Humboldt Park. She was the love of his life.
Don served as a pilot in the United States Air Force from 1953 through 1955. Flying continued to be his passion throughout his life.
Don and Sylvia were married in Chicago on October 23, 1954. They had two children, Heidi and Erich. They resided in Harwood Heights, Illinois from 1963 to 2014.
Don worked at Dole Valve Company in Morton Grove, Illinois as a Millwright and Tool & Die Maker. He then joined Tempel Steel Company in Chicago as a Tool & Die Designer for 6 years. He became a Project Manufacturing Engineer in Bell & Howell Company’s Consumer Products Group for 6 years. In 1973 he joined Tower Oil & Technology Company in Chicago as an Engineering Sales Consultant.
In 2014. Don and Sylvia moved to Flagler Beach, Florida. Throughout his life, Don enjoyed flying, sailing, camping and hiking. He loved nature and all animals, particularly cats. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and a member of the Masonic Fraternity for over 50 years.
Don is survived by his daughter Heidi (Brad) Moss, his son Erich (Noelle Colletta), and his grandchildren Anna and Max. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Bertha and Walter Lauer, and his wife, Sylvia.
