Donald Lee Poindexter
Donald Lee Poindexter was born on September 14, 1936 in Palatka, FL, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at his home in Daytona Beach Shores, FL at the age of 75. He was surrounded by family he laughed with, lived for and loved.
Don was a graduate of Palatka Senior High School and the University of Florida, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. In 1958 he was voted outstanding Theta Chi Athlete. Don served on the St. Petersburg City Council from 1973 to 1977. In 1978, he was elected to the Florida State House of Representatives for a two year term. In his earlier years, he was also the public relations director for Rhodehaver Boys Ranch in Palatka, FL.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Aranell Kinard Poindexter, three sons, Blair, Kevin, David, his only grandchild Shawna Leigh Poindexter and a sister, and Winifred Uebelher of Franklin, N.C.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, in Palatka, FL at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 4, 2012 with Rev. Ignatius Plathanam, CMI. Donald’s remains will be laid to rest at St. Monica’s Cemetery near family members who have preceded him. In lieu of flowers family has requested donations be made to Haven Hospice, Palatka, FL.
All arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Cremation and Memorial Chapel, Port Orange, FL.
