Donald Warren Patnode
Donald Warren Patnode of New Smyrna Beach, FL was born on October 11, 1940 in Au Sable, NY to the late Cedric Patnode and Dorothy Patnode nee Spooner. He passed away peacefully on his birthday, October 11, 2013 in Port Orange, FL at the age of 73 years.
Don graduated from high school in 1959 and entered the US Marine Corps. He served his country with pride as an Airplane Machinist in the Corps until his discharge in 1963. Upon returning home, he married his sweetheart Janet in Norwood, MA in 1963; Don and Janet would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 12, 2013.
He worked as a machinist for Georgia-Pacific until his retirement in 1999 after 23 years of faithful service. Don and Janet resided in Keeseville, NY until his retirement, at which time they relocated to New Smyrna Beach, FL to be closer to their daughters and family. He enjoyed his retirement years, building model airplanes and relaxing most afternoons by the pool.
He is survived by his loving wife Janet, daughters; Kimberly Eaton and husband Robert of Cape Coral, FL and Jennifer Pelkey and husband Keith of Jacksonville, FL. Brothers; Edward Patnode and wife Linda of Crestwood, KY, Wayne Patnode of Millis, MA, and Kevin Patnode and wife Deborah of Morrisonville, NY. A sister Norma “Susie” Snow and husband Keith of Peru, NY. He also leaves behind “the pride of his life”, his grandchildren; Jordyn Pelkey, Karley Pelkey, Jared Pelkey, and Andrew Eaton.
Don was unable to travel to visit his siblings but he enjoyed many long distance phone calls with them; it was often the highlight of his day.
Don will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date and time. He was a devout believer and is now in the arms of Jesus. Don will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
The family would like to extend the gratitude to the IMC staff at Halifax Health Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion they gave Don.
All arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral & Cremation Service, Port Orange, FL.
