Dorothy Mae Garreau's Obituary
Dorothy Mae Garreau, also known as "Momma G," passed away on April 12, 2024, in Palm Coast, Florida, at the age of 82. Dorothy was born on April 1, 1942, in Cobleskill, NY, and was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and foster mother to many.
Dorothy was a talented artist, gardener, and shell collector, using her creativity to craft beautiful shell art and gifts cherished by many. She was a caregiver at Eden Park Nursing Home and later became the owner and operator of The American Taxi. Dorothy's caring nature earned her the nickname "Momma G" as she (and Frank J. Garreau, whom she married on July 31st 1960) provided a safe haven for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous foster children.
She is survived by her children Thomas Jones (son Michael) Alonzo O'Dell (Violet), Steven Garreau (Lynda), Brian Garreau (Caroline), Melissa Morris (Everett), and Nadene Garreau (Michael Wrubel), as well as a host of grandchildren(Alisha, Alonzo Jr., Joshua, William Taylor (Hilary), Tyler Shoemaker (Alyssa), Brian Jr.(Katrin),Erica, Richard, Robert, Deanna, Elizabeth, Bradley (Angelina), Selena, and Edward) and great-grandchildren(Lucy, Melody, Killian R. Shoemaker, Althea, Cameron, Brian III, Zephaniah, Xavier, Valentino, Bradley, Chase, Dominic Jr., Maxwell, Kolton, Kaleb, Mason, Jordan, Kiara, Ciara Morris, Zayden and Accursia). Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Robert Garreau.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 15th from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Elk’s Lodge located at 152 Legion Dr, Cobleskill, NY 12043. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gentiva Hospice in Palm Coast, FL, or the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley in Howes Cave, NY.
Dorothy's kindness, creativity, and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The funeral arrangements are being handled by Celebration of Life, with details to be announced.
