Dorothy "Dot" Rumph's Obituary
Dorothy I. Rumph ("Dot"), age 92, passed away on June 6, 2018, at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice in Palm Coast, FL.
Dot was born on February 12, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to George and Catherine (Joy) O’Reilly. Dot spent her youth attending St. Savior school, riding the trolley, watching movies in an air-conditioned theater, attending USO dances and could often be found enjoying the amusements of Coney Island. Dot moved to Long Island with her first husband, Joseph Koenigsamen where they raised their four children. Dot next married the love of her life, James “Jay Jay” Rumph and moved upstate to Purling, NY with her children, and his blended family. They enjoyed 22 blissful years together before his passing in 1992.
Before Dot retired to Florida in 2003, she was a licensed real estate broker and also worked for the Greene County Department for the Aging. Dot was a member of the Cairo Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Cairo American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, the Cairo Republican Club, the Sacred Heart Rosary Alter Society and the Catskill Lady Elks. While in Florida, Dot was an officer in the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and the Columbian Club Ladies Auxiliary.
Dot enjoyed her retirement shopping, playing bingo, and spending time reminiscing with her children at family gatherings.
Dot is survived by her loving children: Janet (Charlie) Sterry, Steven (Tara) Rumph, Joyce “Puff” Bishop, James “Jimbo” (Lauri) Rumph, III all of Palm Coast, FL; Paul Koenigsamen of Austin, TX, Barbara (Don) Miller of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, Claudia (Dale) Weeks of East Greenbush, NY, and Andrew DeGiovanni of Newport, NC. For a brief time, Dot was also stepmother to Linda Kent of Cocoa, FL, Laurie Marino of Naples, FL, Julie Maguire of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, and John Gary of Kennebunk, ME. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Dot was predeceased by her devoted husband, James J. (Jay Jay) Rumph, Jr., and her son, Richard “Poodle” Koenigsamen.
Funeral arrangements will be arranged through Heritage Funeral Home in Bunnell,Florida and Richard's Funeral Home in Cairo, New York.
