Dorothy Marguerite Wilson's Obituary
Dorothy Marguerite Wilson
Sunrise: February 11, 1925, 11:01 a.m. EST
Place: Mandeville, Jamaica
Parents: Ivy (Darby) and Arthur Franklyn Williams
Married: Arnold G. Wilson (deceased) May 19, 1943
Sunset: February 1, 2024, 4:25 p.m. EST
Affectionately known as “Mom”, “Miss Dor”, “Grandma”, “Great-Grandma” and “DW” to
seven children: Anthony (predeceased), Trevor (Pierrette), Denis, Helen (Knolly),
Jeannette (Steven), Christopher, and William (predeceased), twenty grandchildren,
thirty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Professionally, she was an executive stenographer and secretary starting in her native
Jamaica at the Industrial Development Corporation, then after emigrating to New York
city with the family in the summer of 1968, she was able to continue her career at the
United Nations while raising the three youngest children.
On retirement in 1991 along with Arnold, they moved to Florida where they re-
established, built a home and settled in Palm Coast, where they quickly connected with
a loving and supportive church family. She took up many hobbies such as, painting, tea
set collection, learning languages such as, French, Spanish and German, to enable her
to converse with the many people she encountered in her travels to France with
daughters Helen and Jeannette.
She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends for her
joie de vivre (joy of life), her charm, wit and general knowledge. A true “Renaissance
woman”, much as her mother who proceeded her, she leaves many warm memories
with us all. We are bereft of a friend and a mother, but heaven has gained a warrior and
a stalwart friend.
Jesus said, “You will grieve, but your grief will be turned to joy”. (John 16:20)
A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be 11:00 am, March 8, 2024 at First Baptist of Palm Coast with Pastor Kevin Lautar officiating.
