Dr. Virgil E. Haws
Virgil E. Haws of Ormond Beach, FL was born on May 14, 1916 in Peoria, IL to the late Homer and Fena Haws nee Carmichael. He passed away on October 3, 2012 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Port Orange, FL at the age of 96 years.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII, stationed in the Pacific Theater as a Pharmacist Mate. He then completed medical school in Philadelphia, PA, followed by specialty training in Pathology in Dayton, OH and Detroit, MI.
Dr. Virgil E. Haws had a long career as a board certified Pathologist working at hospitals located in Ohio, Michigan, and Florida. He also and had a lifelong passion for sailing and woodworking.
His passion for sailing and the cruising life compelled him to build a classic wooden sailing vessel in which he traveled to many ports in the Chesapeake Bay, the Bahamas, and the Florida coasts after his retirement.
His children and many grandchildren will miss him dearly and will always have fond memories of him.
A Memorial Service for immediate family and close friends will be held Monday, October 22, 2012 at 4:00 pm from Heritage Cremation and Memorial Chapel, 620 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, FL 32127.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Dr. Haws to Halifax Youth Sailing, 4993 South Peninsula Drive, Ponce Inlet, FL 32127-7301 in order to promote local youth sailing instruction and racing.
All services are under the direction of Heritage Cremation and Memorial Chapel, Port Orange, FL.
