Dudley Frank Stokes' Obituary
On the morning of February 10, 2024, Dudley Frank Stokes, born in Westgate-on-Sea, Kent, England on March 3, 1925, passed away at home in Palm Coast, Florida, at the age of 98. Dudley was raised in the United Kingdom and served in the Royal Signal Corps of the British Army towards the end of World War II. After being posted to Gibraltar by the army, in 1947 he married the love of his life, Marylou, to whom he was married for over 70 years, until her passing in March of 2018. In 1955 he crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth, travelling with his wife and two young sons. While settling in New York, Long Island, he started his career with Western Electric, working his way up to Senior Engineer, until his retirement in 1987. Dudley and his, now, family of 4 (3 boys and 1 girl) relocated to Maryland in 1965, continuing to work for the same company. Before and after his retirement, he loved playing golf, cards, and cruising with his wife and friends. In his most recent years, he enjoyed listening to audible books, and watching his favorite television shows which included westerns and his familiar British military bands. Most of all, throughout his entire life, his first priority, and what he received the most pleasure from, was spending time together with his wife and family. Dudley is survived by his children, Ronald Stokes and his wife Janeen, of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire; Alan Stokes and his wife Donna, of Palm Coast, Florida; Gary Stokes and his wife, Jennifer of Bel Air, Maryland; and Deborah Shanahan and her husband, Michael of Supply, North Carolina. Dudley had seven grandchildren: Jason Stokes, Samantha Miklaszewski, Kirsten Stokes Egan, Harry Stokes, Allison Stokes, Jason Shanahan and Amy Shanahan Santoro. Dudley also had five great grandchildren, Liam Stokes, Lucy Stokes, Sean Rodriguez, Kayla Rodriguez, and Johnny Rodriguez.
Dudley was a model of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be forever remembered in all of our hearts.
