Earl "Buzz" Howard Jr.'s Obituary
Earl "Buzz" Howard Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Buzz was a proud Florida native who always said he had "sand in his shoes." He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, known for his love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family. As the oldest of 18 cousins, he embraced his natural role as a leader from an early age, a quality that carried through his entire life.
Buzz proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran in the United States Air Force, working as an aircraft mechanic. In his younger years, he was also a lifeguard at Jacksonville Beach, embodying his lifelong love for the ocean and the outdoors.
Professionally, Buzz was a hardworking and respected leader, serving as the Vice President of the Louisville Market for Precision Walls. He took immense pride in his role as a mentor, shaping the careers and lives of those who had the privilege of working with him. His leadership left a lasting impact, not just in his industry but in the many lives he helped improve through his guidance and example.
An avid surf fisherman and lifelong Florida Gators fan, Buzz found joy in the simple pleasures of life—casting a line into the waves, cheering on his team, and, most of all, gathering with family. He was especially known for his famous fried turkey at holiday gatherings and his tradition of making hot boiled peanuts for every Florida Gators football game—something that became a game-day staple for family and friends.
Buzz is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; daughters Vicki, Elizabeth, Jessica (Bryan) Roof, and Jennifer; son Joey (Lisa) Collins; 2 sisters; 1 brother; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a grandson. His love for his family was boundless, and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand, share a story, or offer his wisdom.
Buzz will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his love, laughter, and larger-than-life presence will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 31, at 2:30 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service of Bunnell, FL assisted the family with arrangements. www.HeritageFlagler.com
