Ellen Donna Leigh's Obituary
Ellen Donna Leigh passed away on July 2, 2022. She was born May 24, 1950 in Worchester, Massachusetts. After graduating high school in Memphis, Tennessee, she attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Murray State University, where she was in Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity.
Her professional life included working for United Way in Louisville, KY; volunteering for the Red Cross for two years, and working for Abbott Laboratories as Sales Promotion Manager in Columbus, Ohio.
She retired to St. Simons Island, GA in 2001. She was active in St. Simons Presbyterian Church, Save the Island Committee, and other local organizations. She was a reading mentor in Brunswick, as she loved to share her love of reading with children.
She moved to Jacksonville in 2014, and was active and served as an elder in South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. The church library was her calling, as well as working with the children groups. She read to the pre-school children every week.
Ellen was pre-deceased by her parents, Charles and Harriett Leigh of Memphis, TN. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Nance of Jacksonville, FL, and Marilyn Roddy and her husband, Mike, of Wills Point, TX, and her brother, Charles Leigh, JR and his wife, Lorraine, of Drummonds, TN.
She was the beloved aunt to Leigh Dusek and husband, Steve, of Wills Point, TX; James Nance, of Cocoa Beach, FL; Jessica Brown and husband, Jesse, of Collierville, TN; Justin Leigh of Memphis, TN, and Alex Leigh, of Drummonds, TN.
Ellen is also survived by great nephews and nieces Noah, Reagan, and Gavin Dusek and Claire Brown. She was pre-deceased by Jameson Nance.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Heritage Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Bunnell, FL.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 10, 2022 at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, 2137 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207 .
