Ellen Louise Vaal's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Ellen “Ellie” Louise Cook Vaal
Ellen “Ellie” Louise Cook Vaal passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, in Palm Coast, Florida, with her beloved partner and daughter by her side. She spent the last 13 years of her life in the warmth and sunshine of Florida, a place she called home with deep love and joy.
She was born on March 14,1958 in Beverly, Massachusetts and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire. Ellen was the daughter of Robert and Mary Cook. She graduated from Memorial High School before embarking on a journey of compassion and service as a nurse. Her kindness and care touched countless lives through the years, both in her professional work and her everyday acts of generosity.
Ellen was a beacon of love and light. Her home was a sanctuary—always open to anyone in need. Whether feeding her neighbors with her incredible culinary skills, caring for rescue animals
, or simply offering a listening ear, Ellen gave from the depths of her soul. Even when she had little, she gave all she could. Her heart was immense, her smile could brighten the darkest room, and her eyes reflected the purest kindness.
She had an unshakable passion for rescuing animals, and her legacy of love and selflessness will live on through those she cared for and inspired.
In addition to her love for people and animals, Ellen had a deep passion for gardening. She had a true green thumb, turning even the simplest patch of earth into something beautiful and blooming. Her gardens were a reflection of her spirit—vibrant, nurturing, and full of life.
Ellen is survived by her devoted partner of 15 years, Otha Neal; her loving daughter Brittany Levandowski and Brittany’s partner, David Paritz; her sisters Patty Taylor and Maureen Reedy, and brother-in-law Walter Reedy; her brother Tom Cook and sister-in-law Beth Cook; and her many cherished nieces and nephews, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She is proceeded by her Father, Robert Cook, Mother, Mary Cook, and little sister Karen Cook.
A celebration of Ellen’s remarkable life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to your local animal rescue organization or food shelf in her memory.
