F.W. Fageol's Obituary
F.W. Fageol, 86, of Palm Coast, FL passed away on December 11, 2022 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Burlington, Iowa on September 21, 1936 to T.W. and Madge (nee Stevens) Fageol.
He was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School and an Army veteran, serving with the 5th Army, Big Red One Division during the Berlin Build Up. Most of his life was spent in the floral industry, starting his career at Bocks Flower Shop in Burlington. Along with his wife they purchased Irish Ivy Flowers and Gifts in Wapello and Mediapolis, and in the late 1980s they started Lake Florist and Gifts at the Lake of the Ozarks.
He was president of the society of Iowa Florists and a board member of that organization. He served on the board of Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Upon the sale of Irish Ivy, he and his wife moved to the Lake of the Ozarks and established Lake Florist and Gifts. He was a board member of the Lake’s Convention and Visitor Bureau and served as treasurer. Member of the Lake West Chamber of Commerce and was on the advisory board to MoDOT for the relocation and planning of Highway 5 at the Lake.
He was a member of Wapello United Methodist Church, but after retiring and moving back to Mediapolis, attended the Oakville Community Bible Church. After moving to Blountville he became a member and served as a trustee for the Blountville United Methodist Church and the Bethany Sunday School Class.
He enjoyed working and remodeling houses and working in the yard. His real passion was for antique and classic automobiles. He loved going to car shows and showing his antique and classic cars. He was a past charter member of the Blackhawk Auto Restorers, Classic Thunderbird Club, Classic Car Club of America and Buick Owners Club. F.W. was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan.
He is survived by his wife Binia, two daughters Pam (Chuck) Breeden of Camdenton, MO and Linda (Ron) Hutches of Palm Coast, FL, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
He will be inurned in “The Oaks” section of Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, IA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks you to consider donating towards the ongoing care of F. W.'s ailing wife Binia.
