Fannie Maude Strickland's Obituary
Fannie Maude Strickland, 81, died peacefully in Orange Park, FL on January 9, 2023. She was born on April 3, 1941 in McDonough, GA to James and Minnie (nee Reed) Settles, the youngest of 9 children.
Fannie married the love of her life, John R. Strickland, beginning the journey of a lifetime as a military wife. John's military career took the family around the globe, rarely living in one location for more than 18 months. Once they had children, Fannie was an amazing caregiver, particularly focused on her four children's educations and making sure they were raised the right way. She could be a tough, but loving mother. Fannie was selfless, doing anything necessary to help keep the family happy. A gifted seamstress, Fannie loved to sew all sorts of things. She also enjoyed catching basketball games on TV with family after getting hooked on watching Kareem and Magic's "Showtime" Lakers of the 1980s.
Fannie is survived by her beloved husband, John R. Strickland; and her two sons John Strickland and his wife Vilicia, and Montague Strickland and his wife Cara, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, eight siblings, and two daughters; Carolyn Strickland and Beatrice Strickland. She will undoubtedly be sorely missed by numerous family and friends.
