George was a Life Member of both the Basking Ridge Fire Company and the B.P.O.E. Elks in Peapack NJ and Ephrata PA.
Family was the center of George’s world. He stepped up time and again to help raise his grandchildren and support his children through every season of life. His home became the heart of countless treasured memories famous for its Christmas Eve open houses, Thanksgiving dinners, Easter celebrations, summer pool parties, laughter filled gatherings, and traditions that will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
George was widely respected for his work as the owner of Mountain Valley Construction, known as one of the top builders in the area. He was especially admired for his exceptional trim work, craftsmanship, and ability to build just about anything. Whether it was custom homes, hotels, restaurants, home additions, bunk beds, furniture, or helping family members with projects large and small, George was always there with his hands, his heart, and his wisdom.
He was a proud and dedicated member of the Basking Ridge Volunteer Fire Company for more than 50 years, where he served his community with honor and commitment. The fire company became an extension of his family, and he formed lifelong friendships through decades of service and dedication to the town he loved.
Beyond his work and service, George lived life fully and passionately. He excelled in basketball, baseball, football, and softball, often sponsoring local teams and supporting community sports. He loved bowling, golf, making crafts, trips to Atlantic City, summers in Wildwood with the Basking Ridge Fire Department, and spending time with friends and family through the Elks Lodge, where he proudly served as Exalted Ruler.
For many years, George also brought joy to the children and families of Basking Ridge by playing Santa Claus through the Basking Ridge Fire Department, becoming a cherished holiday figure in the community he loved so much.
George’s work ethic was legendary, but his heart was even greater. He was strong, dependable, selfless, funny, and deeply caring, the kind of man who quietly shaped generations through his actions more than words.
Above all else, George treasured his family. His laughter, resilience, generosity, and steady presence gave comfort and strength to everyone around him. The lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on through the generations he helped raise.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and eternally remembered. A memorial service will be held for George and Gloria in Basking Ridge this summer. Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service in Bunnell, Florida assisted the family with arrangements. https://www.HeritageFlagler.com
