George Norman Harnden's Obituary
George Norman Harnden passed Oct 14, 2025, at age 89. He was the son of Goerge Henry Harnden and Anna Woodward Harnden.
George was born in Scotia, New York on August 26, 1936. George attended Scotia High. George then attended Clarkson University and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering. He additionally earned a master’s degree in business administration from Western New England College in Massachusetts.
He learned to play the guitar and piano as a teenager and eventually had a band that recorded a Dixieland jazz album while in college. The name of the band was King George and his Knights. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, sailing, extensive travel, tennis, golf, sketching, amateur radio where people responded worldwide, and playing jazz music on guitars.
After graduation, George worked at Bendix in New Jersey; Raytheon in Massachusetts; and Hamilton Standard, United Technologies in Connecticut. He was a full-time instructor in engineering for one year at University of Connecticut. During his career George designed and managed important projects in the field of aviation and elevator control systems. He supervised projects that involved jet engine fuel controls, flight recorders, radar, and test equipment for military jets. His role required him to travel throughout the United States and Europe. Much of his work at these companies required special government clearances due to the critical nature of his work.
He served in the army and was honorably discharged.
He spent time ballroom dancing where he met Pauline Donnelly whom he eventually married. The couple then moved to Suffield, Connecticut. They had one daughter, Diane Harnden. He had vacation places in Connecticut, Vermont, and Florida. He eventually retired full-time at the age of fifty-six in Palm Coast, Florida. He was married 48 years. Pauline passed in 2013. He then met his wife, Jean. They were married for ten years. They enjoyed dancing and traveling to many places worldwide.
In Palm Coast Florida, he spent much time volunteering for the A1A Scenic highway Committee, Flagler County Parks, and Recreational advisory board; was captain of Volusa tennis league team for ten years.
He loved his community and the local conservation of natural beauty.

He is survived by his wife Jean Harnden and his daughter Diane Harnden.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 1:30pm, Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Grand Haven Room, 2001 Waterside Parkway, Palm Coast, Florida 32137.
