Gilbert John "Jack" Millar's Obituary
Gilbert John Millar (Jack) (85) retired Professor of History at Longwood University, Farmville, VA passed away on Thursday Dec 5, 2024. He was born on April 7, 1939, in Irvine Ayrshire, Scotland. He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana College and received his Doctorate (Ph.D.) from Louisiana State University. He dedicated his life to education. He was widely known as a publishing scholar and only author of history devoted to the Tudor Armies in reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Tudor Mercenaries and Auxiliaries, 1485-1547.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Diane Millar and their blended family, children Lydia Millar, Peter Millar, Evie Stefanski, Kelley (Jeffrey) Adams, 9 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Peter Millar, mother Anne Kennedy Millar and stepson James W Porter Jr.
He is also survived by his sister Marion Millar, former wife Mirilyn M Ford (mother of Lydia and Peter), many friends and relatives in the United States and Scotland.
