Gloria Ann Fichot, 93, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at 3:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on February 11, 2026, in Florida of natural causes.
Born on December 25, 1932, in East Orange, New Jersey, Gloria lived most of her life in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, where she created a home filled with warmth, tradition, and unwavering love for her family. She graduated from Bernards High School in 1951, carrying with her lifelong friendships and strong values that shaped the years ahead.
Gloria was the beloved wife of 73 years to her surviving husband, George Matthew Fichot Sr. Their marriage stood as a testament to loyalty, partnership, and enduring love, a true example for generations to follow.
She is survived by her children: Susan Anderson and her husband Bryan “BJ” Anderson; George Matthew Fichot Jr. and his wife Louise Fichot; Jean Chamberlain and her husband Sonny Chamberlain; and son-in-law Gilbert Maxey; her grandchildren: Dana Boynton and her husband Greg Boynton; Dawn Fichot; George Matthew Fichot III and partner Melissa Pinto; Bobby Alt; Adam Alt and his wife Annabeth Alt; Justin Alt and his wife Krysia Alt; and grandson-in-law Bryan Kramer. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Isabella Alt, Adeline, Willa, Austin, and Avery Alt. Joseph and Nicolas Boynton.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Terry Ann Maxey, and her grandson, Christopher Palmer.
Family was the center of Gloria’s world. She stepped up time and again to help raise her grandchildren and support her children through every season of life. Her home was the gathering place famous for Christmas Eve celebrations, Thanksgiving dinners, Easter holidays, summer pool parties, and countless cherished moments that became lifelong memories.
An exceptional cook, Gloria was especially known for her Hungarian goulash, perfectly made eggs and omelets, and the comfort her kitchen brought to everyone who entered it.
She worked as a waitress at the Corner Cupboard in Basking Ridge and later served as manager of her husband’s construction company, Mountain Valley Construction of New Jersey. Gloria’s work ethic was strong, but her heart was even stronger.
She enjoyed bowling, trips to Atlantic City, summers in Wildwood with the Basking Ridge Fire Department, and many trips and special events through the Elks Lodge, where her husband proudly served as Exalted Ruler. These gatherings brought friendship, community, and joyful memories that remained close to her heart.
Above all, Gloria treasured time spent with her loved ones. Her laughter, resilience, generosity, and steady presence shaped the lives of all who knew her.
Gloria Ann Fichot leaves behind a legacy of devotion, strength, tradition, and unconditional love. Her impact will live on in the generations she helped raise and at every holiday table where her recipes are remembered and recreated.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Memorial will be held at a later date and will be announced once finalized.
