Grace B. Barnes' Obituary
Grace Brooks Barnes, age 92 passed away in Ormond Beach, FL on March 10, 2017. Grace was born in Pottsdown, PA on 11/22/24 and moved to Princess Anne, MD as a child. She later moved to Salisbury, MD with her husband and raised her family there. Grace was a homemaker and mother and also worked as a bookkeeper for the family business for many years. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She went back to college at Salisbury State University and received her degree in education when she was in her 50s to fulfill her dream of being a teacher. Grace spent many of her later years working and volunteering at MAC, the area’s agency on aging which she enjoyed very much and where she made many new friends. Grace was very proud of her Volunteer Recognition Award received from MAC in 2009 for her years of service. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury for many years. Grace moved to Florida in 2010 to be closer to her daughter.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents John and Helen Brooks, her divorced husband, James Upshur Barnes, and her daughter, Patricia Ann Barnes.
Grace is survived by her daughter Karen Barnes Jenkins (husband Alan Howell) and her son James Brooks Barnes (wife Tana Barnes). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeffrey Hale, Brian Hale, Stephanie Carden, Erin Dicandilo, Tyler Barnes and Brooke Barnes as well as their spouses and her 11 great grandchildren.
Grace’s memorial service will be private.
