Gregory William Herkert's Obituary
Gregory William Herkert of Palm Coast, FL passed away on November 10, 2022. He was born on February 11, 1961 in Cheverly, MD, and was the first child born to Bob and Mary Herkert.
Greg was raised in Kailua, HI and Birdsville, MD. He graduated from South River High in Edgewater, MD and went on to serve in the US Marine Corps where he became an FAA-licensed Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic. Upon his honorable discharge, Greg began his career in commercial aviation. He worked for Eastern Airlines in Miami, FL until it’s dissolution. Thereafter, he earned his FAA A&P Instructor license and began a long and distinguished career with Northrop-Grumman in St. Augustine, FL.
Greg had a passion for flying and riding. He owned several Harley-Davidson motorcycles over the years and toured much of the country on bike. And, he loved to fly his Cessna 172 in the Florida skies. He also enjoyed camping, boating, target shooting, smoking/grilling, photography, and building custom bikes from Harley-Davidson parts. He was known for his quick wit, offbeat sense of humor, and a language all his own. Greg will be greatly remembered and missed by his loved ones.
Greg was predeceased by his mother, Mary Eleanor Suit Herkert. He is survived by his father, Robert Francis (Bob) Herkert; his brother, Robert Edgar; his sisters, Pamela Ann and Mary Frances (Francie) and her husband Keith; his beloved cousin Candy Tumbleson; his USMC brothers-in-arms, Dave Frick and Jeff Steichen; and, an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Plans are underway for a Mass of Christian Burial that will take place in Maryland on a date to be announced.
