Hilda Minnie Bodo's Obituary
Hilda M. Bodo went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, August 16, 2018 after a short illness while under the care of her loving family and compassionate caregivers from Kindred Hospice. She was born September 30, 1926 to the late Arno and Minnie Meerstein and is also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Steve, son Steven John, and great great grandson, Sawyer Bodo; and brother, Robert (Meerstein) Mercer.
She is survived by her adoring family; Richard Bodo (OH), Thomas (Sandra) Bodo, (FL), and daughter, Melissa (James) McGrath (NY); and grandchildren, Richard (Dana) Bodo, Carissa Leingang, Tracey (Douglas) Slotta, JP & Logan McGrath, and Kaitlyn Bodo; 12 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, several godchildren, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and friends across the country.
A lifelong resident of Canton, Ohio until 2014, and a graduate of Timken Vocational High School, Hilda spent the last several years near her children in New York and most recently, Florida.
Hilda was a longtime member, elder, trustee, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer along with her husband, of the former Calvin Presbyterian Church (Family Christian Center); a dedicated secretary/office manager for the Canton Plumbers Association, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite – Valley of Canton, and for local Canton Radio Stations. After retirement, she was an avid volunteer for OSHIIP, an active member of AARP, loved playing on her computer and reading hundreds of books, and loved to travel with her husband.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Landing of Poughkeepsie and Kindred Care Hospice for their compassionate, attentive, and tender care.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton, Ohio in the Chapel/Mausoleum with the burial following on Saturday August 25th, 2018 at 11:00 o’clock AM, Pastor Fred Bays will officiate. Luncheon to follow the service.
Final arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral & Cremation Service in Bunnell, Florida and Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home in Canton, Ohio.
