James P. Kennedy's Obituary
James “Jim” Powers Kennedy, 83, passed away at Halifax Health Hospice-Port Orange, FL, on November 27, 2016.
Jim worked for the Department of the Army from 1961 until 1997. His long career in Government Service took him and his family from Huntsville, Alabama; Washington D.C.; Heidelburg and Karlsruhe, Germany; Fort Bragg, NC, and last–in 1980–to Fort McPhearson, GA. He retired at the grade of GS-15. He continued his career as a member of the Executive Board of the Associated Federal Credit Union, until this year.
He was born in Buelaville, NC, attended the University of North Carolina, and earned his Bachelors and Masters of Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina in 1957. Later in 1960, he received his Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University.
In his youth, Jim was active in Tennis and Boy Scouts. As a young father, he remained active in Scouting, and became active in the YMCA, and the JayCees. Later in life, his focus was on his Family and Faith, Real Estate, and his hobbies of Photography and Carpentry.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Jeanne Bryan Kennedy, and son Jebson Bryan Kennedy.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Johanna Rhoades Kennedy, and sons James “Jay” P. Kennedy Jr. and Jeffrey William Kennedy.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 1st, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 6592 NW 48th Street, Jennings, Florida 32053. The Kennedy Family plans to hold a memorial service in Jackonsville, FL, at a future date for all friends and family members. Please contact Jay Kennedy for details at [email protected].
