James Edward Martin's Obituary
James E. Martin passed away September 24, 2025, at the age of 76 in Bunnell FL. He was a Vietnam Veteran who served honorably in the United States Navy. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
James was born in St. Louis MO on December 14, 1948, to Edward R. Martin and Jessie Marie (Lutman) Martin. My dad wanted everyone to know that he placed his trust in Jesus. He also wanted his family to know that he loved his family, even though he wasn't always good at voicing it. He loved his wife, kids, grandkids and his siblings and their families. He said nothing, much more than that, really matters in the end. Make Jesus, Lord of your life and love your family.
My dad attended Newton Highschool then joined the United States Navy in 1967. Proudly serving on board USS Alamo. My dad loved playing baseball in a men's league. He played some great games at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and other places in Newton KS. He also liked watching baseball. He used to like reading westerns when his eyes were better. He was a movie buff, too. He loved playing video games alone and also, with his sons. He was also a lifetime member at the VFW and spent his free time there when he could.
James is survived by his children, Tonya M. (Betts, Martin, Murdock), Gsegnet (spouse Anthony R. Gsegnet), Preston E. Martin, and Chadwick E. Martin. There are 5 grandchildren, Jordan Brundage, Elise R. (Murdock) Boyd (spouse James Boyd), Jenna M. (Murdock) VanRoekel (spouse Adam VanRoekel), Christopher M. Murdock, Isabel A. Gsegnet. There are at least 8 great-grandchildren, Audrina (Brundage) Flores, Daylin Boyd, Brinley Boyd, Alana Boyd, and baby girl Boyd arriving early 2026, Sophia VanRoekel, Rainer VanRoekel, Sylvie VanRoekel. James is also survived by his siblings, sister Connie Tangeman (spouse Maurice Tangeman) of Newton KS. Brother Edward Martin (spouse Pauline Martin) of Brighton CO. Brother Danny Martin of Oklahoma City OK and sister, Julia Martin of Oklahoma City OK. There are also many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins remaining as well.
James was preceded in death, most recently, by his wife Judy in June 2025. He was also preceded in death by his father Edward Martin, stepmother Ruth Martin, mother Jessie Marie (Lutman, Martin) Owens, brother Sammy Martin and brother Philip Martin.
Honor my dad's memory by making today count for Jesus Christ and let your family know you love them. Today is a gift.
Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with final arrangements.
