James "Jim" Donald Oakes' Obituary
With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of James “Jim” Donald Oakes, 75, of Flagler Beach, Florida. He was born on May 12, 1947 in Endicott, NY to the late Robert and Nora Oakes. Jim passed away peacefully with his daughters at his side on April 11, 2023 at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House.
Growing up in the Finger Lakes region in New York, Jim attended Ovid Central School and graduated in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army, attended Hobart College (1974) in Geneva, NY, and Cornell University (1977) in Ithaca, NY. Throughout his career Jim worked for various healthcare systems in Information Technology.
Jim was an avid auto racing and New York Yankees fan. He knew every Yankees historical fact and loved to talk about their history. Jim loved animals and would never bat an eye when another rescue dog or cat would somehow end up in the house. Jim and his rescue dogs could walk and hike for miles and miles.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Munson. He loved to travel with Janet and tell stories about their travels to the Panama Canal, Europe, Alaska, and various National Parks.
Jim is survived by his three daughters, Emily (husband Christopher), Allison (husband Patrick), and Molly (husband Daniel). His eight grandchildren, who he adored; Olivia, Hannah, Nora, Patrick, Mary, Dylan, Andrew, and Madelyn. Three stepsons, John (wife Iris), Matthew, and Robert.
A Celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date with close family and friends.
Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
