James E. Thompson's Obituary
James E. Thompson, 85, peacefully passed away surrounded by his two daughters and family in their home on April 20, 2021 in Flagler Beach, Florida.
Born and raised in Salisbury, North Carolina, Jim attended Boyden High School and lettered in baseball and basketball. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country from 1956 to 1962 and was stationed in Orlando, Florida. He worked for Sears Roebuck and later made a career in clothing sales and eventually advertising. He was very dedicated to his work in sales.
James (Jim) was preceded in death by his father, Locke Owen Thompson, his beloved mother, Jettie Thompson Foster, his sisters Ruth, Ruby and Bertie and his brother, Walter.
Jim loved the Lord above all, and was raised Methodist. He enjoyed his Bible study group and going to church with his friends. He had many friends at The Plymouth in Winter Park, where he resided until December 2020. He also had many veteran friends with whom he gathered weekly to have breakfast. He loved attending Florida Gator football games, Orlando Magic basketball games and watching his beloved North Carolina Tarheels basketball on television.
Jim is survived by his daughters Marla Singletary (Tance) of Flagler Beach and Melanie Thompson of Orlando, He had three grandchildren Joshua Coburn of Orlando, Jayce Singletary of Flagler Beach and Olivia Singletary of Pensacola. Jim had two great grandchildren, Colin Coburn and Kaidyn Coburn. Jim is also survived by his ex-wife, Joyce Heath of Flagler Beach.
Jim loved his children and grandchildren. He was liked by all and loved by many who crossed his path. He will be greatly missed.
