Jan Akiko Lies' Obituary
Jan Akiko Lies, 83, passed away on October 31, 2022, at Stuart F Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, Florida. Born, Akiko Yahagi, on January 1, 1939 in Yawata City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan to the late Kazuko and Tatsue Yahagi. In her younger years, she was an inseparable friend to her two siblings, and studied English in college.
Akiko enjoyed music, cooking, dancing, and tending to her beloved hibiscus flowers. She had a long and distinguished career with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, for whom she worked for many years in the United States, and abroad during her husband’s overseas duty assignments. But the thing she loved most was making others happy, winning people over with her infectious smile and laughter. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling, and cheering on her favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
She was preceded in death by brother Taichi and sister Kazue. Akiko is survived by her husband, Thomas R. Lies; her children, Connie Sylvester, Kenney Kaminski, PJ Fiore, and Tom E. Lies; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation on November 16, 2022, at noon at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Palm Coast, followed by a mass in Akiko's honor. A small reception following the service will be held at 157 Park Place Circle in Palm Coast.
