Jane Claire Paulton's Obituary
Jane C. Paulton died on January 13, 2023, at the age of 88. She was born to Harold and Anna Carrigan Hungate on September 2, 1934 in Indianapolis, IN. She shared a Palm Coast home with her daughter, Carol Ann Paulton, her grandson, J. Benjamin Paulton, and Karl Taylor - a family friend. Two dogs & a cat added additional love and laughter. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph C. Henderson but cherished her relationship with his sons, Joey & Paul, their wives, Sara & Maren, and 5 delightful grandsons.
Jane attended Hanover College for three years but graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1959 she earned her Masters degree in School Administration, married E. Alan Paulton, and moved to New York. Her teaching career included almost every grade. On three separate occasions she was appointed principal of Michigan elementary schools: Beaver School in Warren, McGregor School & Hugger School in Rochester Hills.
Jane was an enthusiastic patron of libraries. She loved reading so much that at one point she opened a bookstore in Cleveland Heights, OH. She thought of herself as a bit of a nomad with 21 moves between seven states. Moving was often motivated by the challenge of turning a vacant house into a comfortable home. She thought of her eventual death as just "moving on up" to number 22.
