Joan Mary Vetro's Obituary
Joan Mary Vetro age 90 of Flagler Beach Florida passed away peacefully Wednesday September 17 2025 at Stewart F. Meyer Hospice House. She was born on June 21,1935 in Lehighton Pennsylvania to the late Stanley and Carrie Steigerwalt.
Born and raised in Lehighton PA she moved to Newark New Jersey after marrying Nicholas Vetro on May 10th, 1958, they quickly found the serene life in the suburb of Mount Laurel New Jersey and decided that was where they were going to raise their family. Throughout her life she followed many paths working as a waitress, becoming a homemaker with four children and eventually opening Trailerama, a recreational vehicle dealership in Hainesport, New Jersey, with her husband. Joan along with her husband loved traveling, dinner clubs, visiting casinos, fight nights, Frank Sinatra , and they loved being "snowbirds" since the '70s and settled in Flagler Beach when they retired in 2001.
Joan loves her family and immensely enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She expressed her love most often through baking and cooking. Her meals were more than food; they were gifts from the heart.
Joan was a woman of few words but you always knew where you stood with her. If you knew her, then you knew she wasn't afraid to speak up. She was quick witted and strong-willed, nothing could get past "Jonesy". Joan's favorite saying was "Uh whatcha gonna do".
Joan "Nona" was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 62 years Nicholas Vetro "Pappy" her brother's Herlan Steigerwalt, Kenneth Steigerwalt her children Nicholas Vetro Jr, Rodney Vetro and loving daughter, Lisa Vetro Scamardella.
