Joann B King's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of the former Mayor of Bunnell, Florida, Ms. Joann B. King, 88 of Flagler Beach, Florida, who peacefully departed this life on March 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. Born on December 5, 1935, in Daytona Beach, Florida, Joann was the beloved daughter of the late Robert Burnsed and Margaret Fagan. For nearly 18 years, Joann dedicated herself to serving the people of Bunnell, 15 of those years as Mayor, demonstrating unwavering commitment and vision. Her leadership on the Bunnell Commission spearheaded initiatives to enhance residents’ quality of life; such as, the annexation of large amounts of land, which resulted in Bunnell being the second largest city in Florida. Her list of accomplishments is long and was recognized by the citizens of Bunnell in the dedication of a park in her name, “The Joann B. King Park.” Her legacy of love, dedication and vision leaves an indelible mark on the city, inspiring future generations to value community and service.
Joann was always doing something with the B’s: Bunnell, bowling, bingo, bridge, bonco or Biloxi, all of these with her many wonderful friends.
Predeceased in death by her husband, Herschel King; Father, Robert Burnsed; Mother, Margaret Fagan; Step Mother Willie Lee Northrip Burnsed; brother, Stephen Fagan; step-daughter, Suzette Pellicer; and step-grandchildren, Lane Burnsed and Claude Pellicer.
Joann knew no strangers, she lived life with her whole heart, which is evident in the legacy she leaves behind, not only within this community, but also for her biological children, Greg (Angie) Crews, Jeff (Jeri) Crews, Jim (Lynelle) Crews, Wendy (David) Whitt; step-children, Vicki King Fontneau, Hutch King; step-brother Richard Northrip; grandchildren, Chris (Jaime) Crews, Jessica (Mark) Pasquariello, Nick (Alissa) Crews, Jaret Crews, Jace Crews, Justin (Amanda) Hodge; step-grandchildren, Jaccilyn Decker, Dakota Sexton, David (Melissa) King, Cody (JoDee Lou) King, Jamey Burnsed, Cristy (Chris) Carson, Jeanne (Peter) Ansel, Scarlette (Nick) Mingione, JP (Janice) Fontneau, Chuck Pellicer; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Jackson, Hunter, Rebekah, Hannah, Haley, Molly; and step-great grandchildren, Maddilyn, Launa, Cassie, Chance, Leah, Lacy, Luke, Blake, Elizabeth, Amelia, Iris, Luca, Dylan and Noah.
A celebration of Mayor Joann’s life will begin by welcoming family and friends at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Bunnell, Florida; followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris and Pastor Kaleb officiating.
She will be laid to rest with her father at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Shady Rest Cemetery in Holly Hill, Florida.
