John was an excellent educator. May he rest in peace.
From my time at Hudson Catholic (1971-75) I have memories of just a handful of teachers who I remember as being exceptional. Mr Campion and Mr Ferro top the list. Mr Campion ran excellent classes but he was a little full of himself. Not so, Mr Ferro. He never acted above the class and presented his material in an understanding and non-condescending manner. He was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person....
My condolences to his family. He was a great teacher and a wonderful person. He was my teacher for U.S. History 1 at Hudson Catholic. He made history come alive with his knowledge, outgoing personality and sense of humor. He could speak without notes for an entire period. I can still remember some of his stories even though nearly 50 years have passed. He loved teaching history but he said to me many times that his real passion was science. He was able to combine the two in an elective class at Hudson called "The Ascent of Man" which I was able to take as a senior. Thanks to the Internet I was able to track him down in Florida a few years back and speak to him by phone.
