John Daniel Hughes Sr.'s Obituary
John Daniel “Danny” Hughes Sr, (66) passed from this life on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 4:15 am after a courageous 3 year battle. Danny passed at home, surrounded by his wife and loving Family.
Danny was born in Putnam County, FL, to Johnnie Lee Hughes and Willie Mills on February 5, 1952. He attended Palatka South High School and graduated from St. Johns Community College. Danny was employed more than 46 years as a heavy equipment operator and served as project superintendent. During his career, Danny was involved on a multitude of roadway construction projects in the state of Florida, including critical highway and interstate transportation projects.
Danny above all loved his family. Danny was a man who was, quite simply, the BEST Husband and Dad ever, he instilled in his children and grandchildren his faith in God, love, respect and kindness to others. Danny was a very special and dedicated man who loved people. His smile was contagious and touched so many hearts. Danny enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and shrimping. He enjoyed vacation trips to the North Carolina Mountains with his wife and family. Danny loved working on his trucks and making various mechanical repairs. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and countless people he encountered along the way.
Danny is preceded in death by his Parents Johnnie Lee Hughes and Willie Mills both of Palatka; Sister Shirley Giddens and her husband Edward of Palatka.
He is survived by his wife of (47 yrs.) “Punkin” Diane Hughes of Palm Coast; Children Diana and Carl (Skip) Elliott of Palatka; Madelyn Woods (John) of Palatka; and John Daniel Hughes Jr.; Sisters: Joyce A. Mills (Gene) of Palatka - Rita Wellborn (Jim) of Palatka - Robin Symonds of Palatka - Annette Robb of Palatka; Brother: Jamie Mills (Crystal) of Palatka; Grandchildren Hanna Elliott of Palatka – Ava and “Bubba” Ashton Hughes (Ashley Bruff) of Palm Coast; (28) nieces and nephews; numerous family and friends.
A private family service was held on November 6, 2018 in Palm Coast, Fl
The Family request that Family and Friends come join them to Celebrate in the remembrance of Danny's Life on December 08, 2018 at Ravine Gardens State Park in Palatka, Fl from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
