Jose (Chili) Ortega
June 28, 1962 – March 16, 2024
Beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jose (61), passed away unexpectedly in Palm Coast, FL on March 16, 2024. Jose, the ultimate patriot, was a proud member of the United States Army and served his country faithfully for 6 years, reaching the esteemed rank of Sergeant. Following his discharge, Jose served as a Corrections Officer in the state of California for over 30 years. As a dedicated member of the American Legion, he never hesitated to lend a helping hand when needed. Jose was a humble spirit, generous giver, and fiercely loyal. He was also a highly respected leader and member of his community and lit up every room he entered. Of course it’s worth mentioning, Jose loved sports and was a devoted New York Yankees & Dallas Cowboys fan.
Jose is survived by his children; David (daughter-in-law Bianca Rose & grandson Bronx), Jerrell (& granddaughter Jenissa) & Bianca Monique. His sisters; Ana Paduani (and brother-in-law Jorge), Rosa Ortega (and brother-in-law Gilbert), Melin Torres and his brother Jose A. Ortega; as well as his beloved mother Percida Deleon Diaz.
A visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service in Palm Coast, on Thursday evening, March 21, starting at 4:00 PM followed by a memorial service beginning at 5:00 PM. The graveside burial will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery; on Friday morning at 9:30 AM. An additional memorial service will be held at the American Legion in Blythe, California; Jose’s home for nearly 30 years. The service will be held on April 13th.
