Margaret Rose Sotomayor's Obituary
Margaret Rose Sotomayor, 73, entered her rest on August 12, 2021 in Palm Coast Florida, at 9:15 PM. She transitioned to Glory with her loving family at her bedside, as they were every day during her stay at the hospital. Our hearts are broken and yet full of love and gratitude for the time God gave us with her.
She was born in New York City on February 1, 1948, to parents Manuel and Irma Torres. In a “born again” faith-filled home along with two additional siblings, one brother one sister, she completed a college degree and served for 20 years in the educational system of New York City impacting hundreds of students in the most disadvantaged community of the South Bronx. Upon retiring from the New York Dept. of Education, she moved to Florida with her beloved husband Danny, in a blended family that included 6 children and continued to impact student lives for an additional 20 years, becoming a model/mentor for other teachers and recognized as “Teacher of the Year” in Palm Coast Florida. Margie was known as being super-intelligent, quick-witted, kind, tender-hearted, and generous, giving the shirt off her back to her children if they needed anything. Her love for youth extended to planning and directing summer camp experiences for church youth, providing them with an opportunity they would not otherwise have.
She was also a self-taught choir director and worship leader in her local church both in New York and Florida for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Danny, and her mother “Mima” and father “Papi”.
She is survived by three sons, Paul and Jeff Pedro and Andrew Sotomayor. Three stepchildren, Danny Jr., Janet Ranucci and son-in-law Rocky, Alice Quintana and son-in-law Manny.
A sister Gladys and brother-in-law Joseph Delli Pizzi, and a brother James Torres. Two daughters-in-law, Jamie and Amber Pedro and a son-in-law Bart Mather.
Margie, better known as “Mimi”, is also survived by beloved grandchildren: Baron, Sophie, Tyler, Cameron, Devin, Porter, Marcus, Emily, Alyssa and Anthony.
A very special thanks to Annie Saari, sister - friend and caregiver for over fifteen years that not only included helping Margie but her parents as well. We are forever grateful!
She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, friends, and a large extended family fortunate to have her in their lives.
Due to Covid restrictions, a limited time for viewing on August 30th from 8AM-9AM is designated at Heritage Funeral Home 4601 Moody Blvd. Bunnell, Fl 32110. Interment to follow immediately at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
